Intensive Outpatient Program

Substance abuse always interferes with a person’s ability to function and live normally. Sometimes it can be managed with regular outpatient meetings once or twice a week. Sometimes it is so intrusive in a person’s life that the individual needs to be in a residential rehabilitation program. Other times, however, individuals are able to manage their lives without entering a residential rehabilitation program but they need a greater level of treatment and support than regular outpatient treatment. This individual can truly benefit from our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Our IOP is designed to assist clients who are in need of a higher level of treatment services than that which is normally provided in a standard outpatient program.

In general, the IOP is open to adolescents and adults. Clients in the IOP will be living independently or with support, and will be in need of intensive support and treatment regarding substance abuse.

Clients will be seen for 9 hours per week, at a rate of 3 hours per day for 3 days for group treatment. We anticipate that each IOP client will be seen for individual treatment at least one hour bi-weekly.

The program is designed to last for 12 weeks. At the end of the program the client will be assessed to determine his/her level of progress and further treatment needs. Once this assessment is complete, the client will either graduate or be eligible to repeat the program for additional work. If the client is ready to graduate from IOP, referral(s) will be made as necessary for the client to insure the client’s continued success. Examples of possible referrals would be standard outpatient counseling, AA, NA, or other support groups, to name a few.

Clients will be expected to complete the Session Attendance Log so that we can verify they have received IOP services.

Each client will review his/her treatment progress with an IOP clinician on a monthly basis. This will allow client and staff to adjust treatment goals, objectives, and strategies as needed.

Topics to be addressed during the 12 week IOP include: relapse prevention, emotion regulation, identifying values/purpose/meaning, changing behaviors, communication skills, and others that may be identified as appropriate and necessary.
